There are so many overwhelming things when it comes to becoming a parent. One of them is what all you will need for your newborn baby. Everyone will tell you different things and different advice. So, what do you actually need? I am a mom to a wonderful 15 month old baby girl. Here are some of the things that I most needed during the newborn stage.
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Diaper cream
- Diaper cream spatula
- Baby bottles
- Bottle drying rack
- Burp cloths
- Cradle cap brush
- Baby wash and shampoo
- White noise machine
1. Let’s start with #1, diapers. It is obvious that you will need diapers for your newborn, but what size and brand should you get? One of my life motto’s as a mom is that every baby is different and that includes what diapers will work best for him/her.
I chose many different brands of diapers in the beginning of my motherhood journey. I have ended up using the Amazon brand diapers called Mama Bear. I will put a link to it below.
Now most newborns will be in the size “newborn” and most will not stay in that size very long. If your baby is over 10lbs, they may benefit from going straight into size 1’s.
2. I have also tried a number of different wipe brands and came to the conclusion that Pampers Sensitive Wipes are the best for me and my daughter. There’s little worse when you have wipes that aren’t able to get the job done and you have a screaming and fussy baby you are dealing with. These have worked the best for me for not being too watery, but having enough water that it doesn’t take as many wipes to finish the job.
3. My favorite diaper cream that I’ve used on my daughter since she was born is Boudreaux’s Butt Paste. I’ve tried other brands and they showed me why I really like this kind. It is smooth to put on, instead of being rough as other can be which leads to pain on your little one. It helps clear up her diaper rashes fast and leaves her feeling comfortable.
4. Of course, with diaper cream you’ll need to get a spatula with it. I use Dr. Talbot’s regular size and have a mini size I keep in the diaper bag.
5. The baby bottles that my daughter used the most were Dr. Brown’s Anti Colic Bottles. She took to those the best and they helped her with her colic and gas. There are many other kind of bottles out there and it all depends on what your little one does best with. I recommend getting the 4oz bottles at first and then getting the 8oz bottles when your baby gets older.
6. A bottle drying rack was very helpful when my daughter used bottles especially at the newborn stage. You can wash you bottles and accessories (pacifiers, bottle inserts, toys, etc.) and let them dry on this rack. I used Boon Lawn & Twig Drying Rack.
7. Burp cloths are essential for newborns. If you didn’t already know, newborn babies spit up quite frequently, and its totally normal, but can get very messy. The burp cloths I used were Muslin Burp Cloths by Synrroe. They are very soft and rectangular which allow you to put them on your shoulder while burping the baby.
8. A cradle cap brush is a brush that you can use to help prevent cradle cap on your newborn. I also used these when bathing my daughter. They are very soft and gentle. I used the brand Scalp Scrubbie Cradle Cap Brush.
9. SheaMoisture Baby Wash and Shampoo is the only brand I want to use for my daughter. It smells amazing and makes you want to cuddle your baby even more. It’s gentle and works very well.
10. Lastly, but almost the most important is a white noise machine. My daughter has slept with this one from the day she was born until now. It’s a game changer and so important. It helps drown out the noises of barking dogs, the doorbell ringing, loud children, and so much else. I can’t reiterate enough how lovely this is to have. I have the Jack & Rose White Noise Machine. Having the night light on this is so helpful too for the middle of the night feedings and diaper changes.
I hope you found these helpful. These are things I personally used and enjoyed. All links to these products are found above the pictures in the black boxes. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact me at [email protected].
