Does Nutrisystem Actually Work?

I was on Nutrisystem for 2 months. Did I lose weight? Did I keep the weight off?

Let’s start with my background a little bit. I had a lot of stubborn baby weight that I had put on during my pregnancy that I was trying to lose. I was about 15lbs heaver than my pre-pregnancy weight. I could tell that this was going to be very hard to get off. I had just hit 8 months postpartum (8 months since I had my baby). I was really trying to lose weight and excited to start Nutrisystem.

    What is Nutrisystem?

Nutrisystem is a weight loss program that provides most of your meals, depending on what plan you choose. It’s a month by month program so you can either renew every month or decide to cancel if it’s not right for you.

    What plans do they offer?

There are 6 different plans to choose from.

They also have subcategories underneath the plan you choose. They are Basic, Uniquely Yours, Uniquely Yours Max, and Partner Plan.

    Prices

You have the option to choose a 5 day/week or 7 day/week plan.

    • Basic plan starts at $9.99 per day
    • Partner plan starts at $9.99 per day
    • Uniquely Yours plan starts at $10.71 per day
    • Uniquely Yours Max starts at $13.21

I personally had the Women’s Uniquely Yours Max+ plan and I chose the 7 day/week plan. I also paid for 2 months up front which gives you a discount. Here is my total for 2 months on Nutrisystem, $773.99.

What did that include? This is what was included in a 1 month plan.

    • 28 breakfasts
    • 28 lunches
    • 28 dinners
    • 28 snacks

What did I have to buy outside of Nutrisystem? Part of the diet is eating 6 times per day. 3 snacks and 3 meals. They only provide you with 1 snack per day so you have to buy other snacks to go along with it. Another big part of the diet is incorporating vegetables into every meal. That gets pretty expensive considering the prices of vegetables and you already paying for the Nutrisystem plan.

    • Vegetables
    • 56 snacks

I lost 12.8lbs in 2 months! That’s amazing and was a victory for me! I was feeling great about myself and loving my new body, but… did I keep the weight off? Unfortunately because the prices were way out of my budget, I could only do 2 months of Nutrisystem. This took a turn in my weight loss journey.

Did I keep the weight off?

Unfortunately, I gained back about 3-5lbs and continue to fluctuate to this day. I am very happy with having lost the weight that I did, but after I got off the program I couldn’t stick with continuing the diet and the self motivation that I previously had. It was discouraging, but I am blessed to have been able to lose the weight that I did.

    Is Nutrisystem worth the money?

For me personally, I think that it is not worth how expensive it is. I am happy to have lost the weight that I did, but I could have done the same thing, but with spending way less. That being said, it helped with discipline of eating habits for me Before, I did not know when I was full. I didn’t know when to stop eating which led to excessive stomach problems and guilt everytime I overate.

If you have the money, then go for it! If you are on a budget like me, then this might not be the best route to go.
